Have you ever felt as if you are doing your day to day job, or maybe you are enjoying being a full time mom, or maybe you are juggling both school and work, but can’t seem to know what is next for you?
I’m writing this post because I believe everyone has something Jesus wants you to do on earth, but it does require to give up your life, it does require to “go away” to where he is leading. By going away, it doesn’t always mean physically moving to another city or town, it might just mean to choose to take a day off and seek God where he last met you. (Side note: It’s more simple than doing math, I don’t like math by the way, lol.)
Everyone knows about the great commission as referred in Matthew 28:19-20, about making disciples of all nations. In simple terms, it means that Jesus wants more people to know and follow him.
There are 2 important things I want to point out today, the first is that Jesus asked to meet with his 11 disciples in the mountain (Matthew 28:16; Mark 16:7) before letting them know of the great commission. In Matthew 28:17, it describes that the disciples worshipped Jesus when they saw him, right before the great commission. And then second, is that he said he is always with us, do you have a heart knowledge about it? I know it can be hard to grasp that he is with us every day, that’s why I’m writing this.
If who you follow is your Lord, who do you follow? Yourself or Jesus?
In Matthew 4:18-22, Jesus began his ministry right after his breakthrough confrontation moment with Satan (you can read all about it on Matthew 4:1-11). Part of Jesus ministry involved going to places. He first went from Nazareth to the Sea of Galilee, the distance of his travel was 18.6 miles. It was in Galilee that Jesus met with his first disciples. It was also in Galilee, after 3 years of training his disciples, that he commissioned them to make disciples. I don’t know about you, but I just realized that today.
The above tells me that location is important. It also tells me that sometimes God can bring us back to our familiar places, after a season of training/preparation, because he knows we can influence a familiar place or a certain group of people that we can relate to.
Need an example? There are some recovered addicts that need to go away to a rehabilitation residential center to get well, and after a while they are able to go back sober and help people who deal with the addictions they used to deal with. But many times, with addictions, the person finds the need to replace the addiction with something or someone else, in order to be free from it. They used to follow their cravings, and now who would they follow to get back on track on a long term basis? That’s their choice.
Let’s look at this scripture: “the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). The thief refers to satan. If you feel at lack at an area of your life, have you thought of asking Jesus to take over the ownership of your life?
I’m a business owner and it took time for me to decide to become the owner of a business because of the responsibilities, I still give my business to Jesus every day though. If you feel a lot of pressure about the things going on in your life, today may be the day to choose to give it up to Jesus, who doesn’t mind owning all of you. When you let him be the OWNER of YOUR LIFE, he is most likely going to put his footprint on it, which means that you will not only experience his life but his presence.
When it comes to my life, the moment that I gave my life to him, it has changed me from the inside first, when nobody knew me, to having him want me to share about my life with others that are in my journey.
Whoever you follow, you would make sure you have an awareness of what he wants to do, isn’t it?
Some of you might be following Jesus but have never decided to give your life to him. That’s what I’m sensing. If you find that you have been disliking your life, or experiencing one thing out of the many examples in Luke 16:26, or in Matthew 16:24, is probably because you still need to surrender.
If you know English, you know what the word surrender means. Haven’t you ever surrendered to a craving to chocolate? Haven’t you ever surrendered to a need to go to a social event just because you wanted to be liked by people? Haven’t you ever chose to surrender yourself to a job just for the money and the vacations available? But does it really really make you contend? Do possessions make you seriously contend and fulfilled? Are they really worth it when you do things and you really know deep in your heart you don’t want to?
If you want to give your life to Jesus. Just give up your life, invite him into all areas of your life, your mind, soul, and spirit, so that He can live abundantly in you. Give him permission to rule and order your plans and schedule. Allow him to lead you. I know, that’s hard and for some it’s a process. But don’t you want to experience to live life abundantly?
When you finally give up your own life, and when you finally choose to stop leading your life, you will find everything you need in Jesus, in knowing he is with you. Trust me, when you invite someone to be your friend they are not going to go further away, they will be part of your life because you allow them to. Jesus is a gentleman, from my day to day experience, I know that as a fact.
Anyway, going back to the commissioning part, you can read it all in Matthew 28:16-20. It says that the disciples went away to Galilee to meet with Jesus in a mountain. Do you notice that they first had to go away?
In this microwave style and hot cheetos culture, lol, why wouldn’t you want to go away to meet Jesus in a more personable way, and without distractions? If going away by yourself hasn’t been working, then invite someone who you know, knows Jesus,!! Or better yet, why don’t you ask around to join a retreat? Just ask!
Jesus is with you, even to the end of age
Do you know that Jesus is close to you?
You might be thinking, well, it says in scripture that he is with us. Cool! But does your heart have that knowledge daily? If not, I invite you to say a prayer,
“Jesus, I’m sorry for the times I knew you were calling me to you but I kept choosing to ignore you. I want to change but I can’t so I just want to surrender my life to you, (surrender your struggles (this is a big one please do so) things and people that you know have been taking time away from quiet time with him), even if I’m scared right now, I want to know you and know that you are close, I ask that you forgive me of my sins, wash me white as snow, and show me daily that you are close to me. In addition, I give you permission to change the way I think and the way I do life. Being the owner of my life hasn’t been working, so I allow you to take over, Jesus, come into my heart and be the Lord of my life, in Jesus name, AMEN!!!!!!

PS: To my friends, I’m sorry if I have been distant from time to time, the Lord has been calling me to spend a lot of time with him in order to write things like this. In addition, I still take care of leading a women’s ministry (Pearls Set Apart), am taking marketing classes, and doing all the marketing of my coaching business, still manage to spend time with my mom who has been going through a lot, and am still a seminary online student. Thank God he didn’t call me to be married while beginning all these things… lol. He knows the perfect time for all will come.
